The Council on Black Minnesotans hosted the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Celebration, “The Fierce Urgency of NOW,” on Jan. 18.
A rally started the day with youth speakers, music and dance from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the Central High School Auditorium. Marchers, including Mayor Chris Coleman and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, then walked from Central High School to Concordia University Gangelhoff Auditorium. Keynote speaker was Nekima Levy-Pounds, director of the Community Law Project at University of St. Thomas.

Please stop by our offices on University Avenue Thursday afternoon for our end-of-the-year community celebration! The event will take place between noon and 6 p.m. and will include good conversation, wonderful food, door prizes and a book-signing by Mahmoud El-Kati from 4-5 p.m. We hope to see you there!

Join us for an unusal end-of-the-year community celebration! This year ASANDC and the board of directors invite you to stop by our office anytime between noon and 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 17. There will be good chatter, good food and door prizes. You’ll also have a chance to hear about our work and accomplishments, but most importantly, we want to thank you for joining us in making our neighborhood a great place!
Special guest, Mahmoud El-Kati, will be signing copies of his book, “The Hiptionary: A Survey of African American Speech Patterns with a Digest of Key Words and Phrases,” from 4-5 p.m.
